About the Role

This role provides leadership, planning, implementation, and operational excellence for all Human Resources services that support and align with the company’s vision, mission, and goals as well as overarching corporate policies. The Manager, Human Resources advises and acts as a trusted partner to leaders across the organization. This role is accountable for ensuring that HR strategy and service is aligned with organizational objectives and goals.

This role has a range of responsibilities for human resources services including employee recruitment and retention, employee relations, HR policies and procedures, and training and development.

What You’ll Do:

Leadership, Planning & Guidance

  • Working with leadership, determine the direction and priorities of HR activities
  • Manage the employee benefits and pension plan in accordance with corporate policy and legislative requirements
  • Engage leadership and staff to gain feedback on HR programs, initiatives and offerings within the organization
  • Support an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes high quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention/development and high-performance expectations
  • Develop, coach and train team members within the HR department
  • Provide guidance and oversight on employee issues as required

Talent Acquisition

  • Oversee and execute recruitment strategies and tactics
  • Provide counsel to leaders on talent retention and development
  • Support with the development of and oversight on hiring, onboarding and offboard practices within the organization

Employee Relations

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with leaders and staff
  • Support leaders/staff by consulting and advising on all employee relations matters and complaints, interpreting and applying applicable provincial legislation, internal policies, and best practices

HR Administration

  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements
  • Maintain current knowledge of Pay Equity, human rights, labour legislation changes and employment standards guidelines and laws
  • Assess and make recommendations for outsourced HR services
  • Project and manage yearly HR related expenditures
  • Ensure confidentiality of employee data (e.g., files, salary information etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive human resources management experience
  • CHRP, CHRL or CHRE designation is required
  • Some travel (10-15%) is expected in this role – locations include points in SW Ontario, Vancouver and Seattle, Washington

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative/regulatory requirements
  • Business acumen and strong knowledge and experience in HR best practices, trends, developments, and talent management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and extremely organized, excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated experience with recruitment and selection, performance management programs and best practices
  • Understanding of the full employee lifecycle and best practices, programs, and initiatives to support recruitment, retention, and growth
  • Ability to establish productive working relationships and work collaboratively with leaders and staff
  • Effective interpersonal skills including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
  • Effective and demonstrated ability to problem solve and make sound decisions
  • Planning and project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle sensitive situations tactfully
  • Innovative thinker and problem solver
