Customs Specialist – Client-Focused & Growth Role

Drive Client Success and Build Your Career in Customs Brokerage!

Our client is a leading customs broker with a sterling reputation. They are the strategic partner that their clients rely on to navigate the complexities of global trade. They are seeking an ambitious Customs Specialist who is ready to dive into diverse client challenges and accelerate their career by mastering the compliance landscape.

This role is designed for those who thrive on variety, excel under pressure, and want to see their expertise directly impact client success. You will gain exposure to multiple industries and complex scenarios faster than in any corporate role, and this can be your springboard to management.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Client Expert: Manage a portfolio of importers, acting as their primary day-to-day contact for all customs matters. Build strong relationships and become their trusted advisor.
  • Execute with Precision: Handle the complete lifecycle of customs entries, ensuring accuracy in HS Tariffs classification, valuation, and origin determination for a wide range of products.
  • Solve Complex Problems: Proactively resolve customs issues, requests for information, and other issues directly with CBSA and PGAs/OGDs on behalf of your clients.
  • Ensure Impeccable Compliance: Conduct entry audits and database reviews to reduce clients’ exposure to risk and penalties.

Your Path to Leadership: Career Growth In Customs Brokerage

In a broker environment, high performers are quickly recognized. Your growth is directly tied to your ability to manage complex client portfolios and generate value.

Path to Expertise:

With their support, you could pursue advanced certifications (e.g., Licensed Customs Broker – LCB, Certified Customs Specialist – CCS, or Certified Trade Compliance Specialist – CTCS ) to become a recognized authority. If you have the desire to learn and grow, hands-on training will be provided to complete your knowledge foundation in compliance matters.

Client Portfolio Growth:

Progress from handling standard accounts to managing high-value, complex key accounts.

Leadership Track:

And then with demonstrated leadership skills, dedication and consistent progress, you would transition within a reasonable time frame into a Customs Manager role.

What You Bring:

  • 5 years of experience in a customs brokerage rating/releasing all modes, from opening the file to final billing, or a tariff classification focused role.
  • While a CCS or CTCS designation is preferred, they are more interested in your experience and what you know.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Harmonized System Tariffs.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, able to prioritize and juggle multiple priorities.
  • Possess a good knowledge of CBSA and OGD regulations and Trade Agreements like CUSMA/USMCA.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate information, solve problems and make correct decisions.
  • Strong work ethic, with a positive attitude and team-oriented.
  • Exceptional written/oral communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, self-motivated mindset with a passion for continuous learning.

You know that the most challenging aspect of your work is keeping up with all of the changes, as change is constant, and you have to keep pace to be able to serve clients with timely and accurate advice.

You are up for the challenge!

Compensation: Salary is between $70,000 – $80,000, based on industry experience and qualifications, bonus, 3 weeks vacation and extensive benefits.
