Customs Broker/Freight Forwarder, very well-established in the area is seeking to hire a Director, Customs, managing a medium-sized customs operations team with a positive, hands-on leadership style.

This is a key position on the management team, reporting to senior management/owners.

Scope and influence

Assuring that the Customs product goals/targets and guidelines are met.
Support Sales in the retention of new customs brokerage clients.
Leading the department to meeting and exceed budget expectations

  • Maintain and ensure Customs Brokerage standard operating procedures
  • Drive timely and accurate Import product invoicing
  • Ensure CARM month-end payments are billed out within same month for reconciliation.
  • Ensure file level revenues and costs are booked within the same financial period.
  • Ensure customs brokerage product file cost allocations are completed before
    month end or accrued into same period
  • Minimizing un-allocated payments (waste – demurrage, file level errors)
  • Monitor Brokerage department Import product KPI’s with focus on continuous improvement
  • Support of External Customer sales and retention/service visits as required

Key Activities / Accountabilities

  • Maintain and ensure Customs Brokerage standard operating procedures

  • Ensure customs brokerage product file cost allocations are completed before
    month end or accrued into same period
  • Minimizing un-allocated payments (waste – demurrage, file level errors)
  • Monitor Brokerage department Import product KPI’s with focus on continuous improvement
  • Support of External Customer sales and retention/service visits as required
  • Lead Department staff, meeting company goals and expectations.
  • Complete annual reviews of Customs staff working with them for future goals.
  • Assist in creating meaningful goals and objectives for KPI’s for department to work towards.
  • Secure proper and timely training and information in all areas that affect the CA
  • Customs Import product performance
  • Import product training (import products, operations)
  • Sales guidance in product specific matters

Essential Educational and / or Training Qualifications & Certificates

  • Post-secondary education desireable.
  • CCS designation and/or Professional Qualification

Preferred Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum 5-10 years customs operations supervision or management experience of with solid leadership skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Import Customs Brokerage and transportation processes and procedures
  • Fluently bilingual English and French
  • Excellent people management and communication skills
  • Self motivated and multi-task capable

  • Understanding of cultural differences

Compensation: The salary will be commensurate with experience and extends into six-figures for the right candidate, plus bonus and benefits.
