Purpose:
The primary responsibility will be to independently manage the company’s import / export activities of 3 plants in Canada, ensuring the company remains compliant while reducing costs and managing regulatory risks.
Areas of responsibility:
- Manage customs compliance program to ensure imports and exports meet applicable laws and regulations
- Maintain and control the in-house CUSMA program
- Monthly reconciliation of export shipments
- Monitor and alert company of any potential tariffs
- Oversee and maintain working relationship with Canadian and US Customs brokers ensuring shipments are cleared in a timely manner
- Maintain import / export compliance records
- Manage the ACS reconciliation and GST Exemption (EOPS) programs
- Prepare and file voluntary disclosures and/or adjustments with both Customs agencies to make corrections to value, HS code, tariff treatments, etc.
- Perform monthly post-audit reviews of import entries received from US & Canadian brokers to ensure that they are compliant with customs regulations, file adjustments as required
- Manage offshore products and commodities importation
- Manage customs release and port releases
- Secure freight rates/transit time with shipping lines / carriers / freight forwarders, coordinate shipments, ensure required documents are in order
Required skills and qualifications:
- Post-secondary Education – CCS, CTCS or Licensed Customs Broker; CITP
- Senior experience in Customs and International Trade, Logistics functions
- Thorough knowledge of the Customs Tariff, Customs Act, and Trade regulations
- High proficiency in Excel required, BI and SAP an asset
