Customs Specialist – All Modes – Richmond, BC – Hybrid

After training, this position is Hybrid – 2 days in-office, 3 days remote

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with customer on regular intervals to ensure good customer service practices are in place
  • Review Commercial Invoices, Bills of Lading and Purchase Orders to identify discrepancies, correct errors and ensure compliance with CCRA regulations 
  • Monitors clearances with Carriers, follow up on any non-clearance shipments
  • Daily preparation of EDI and manual release requests to include all modes of transport for various commodities
  • Ensure all documentation and filings are in accordance with Customs rules and regulations
  • Completion and presentation of confirming entries
  • Canadian Customs Brokerage standard operating procedures
  • Support timely and accurate invoicing
  • Ensure CARM Daily Accounting files are billed out within the KPI timeline for reconciliation 
  • Ensure all shipments that are received are recorded with file level revenues, and costs are booked within the same financial period, ensuring all file cost allocations are completed before the month end, or accrued into the same period
  • Minimize un-allocated payments (waste – demurrage, file level errors) and occasional assistance to A/R, resolving disputes for non-payment
  • Contact customers to obtain Trade Certificates, allowing for the claim of reduced rates of duty and imports
  • Prepare E-manifests as required in timeliness to CBSA requirements and bill in accordance with SOPs in notes of CW Org. or e-docs
  • Complete Export Declarations as required ensuring POA on file and bill in accordance with SOPs in notes of CW Org. or e-docs 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to all customers
  • Strong knowledge of Ocean, Air and Truck rating and releasing procedures
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and make adjustments for changing workload
  • 4 years (+) of customs rating/releasing experience
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Familiar with Zoom and MS Teams
  • Strong communications skills
  • CCS Designation is preferred, or working towards it
