Objective / Purpose of the Job
Leading the CA Customs Department to excellent Customs Brokerage performance in:
Profitability
Processes
Efficiencies
Quality
Satisfying or exceeding customer expectations
Regulatory compliance,training, operational customs brokerage guidance and sales support.
Operational Branch support in conjunction with operational excellence.
Review, evaluation and implementation of procedures and processes (best practises), including training and mentoring of staff.
Scope and influence
Assuring that the Customs product goals/targets and guidelines are met.
Support Sales in the retention of new customs brokerage clients.
Drive the department to meeting and exceed budget expectations
Key Activities / Accountabilities
Maintain and enforce CA Customs Brokerage standard operating procedures
Drive timely and accurate Import product invoicing
Ensure CARM month-end payments are billed out within same month for reconciliation.
Enforce file level revenues and costs are booked within the same financial period.
Enforce customs brokerage product file cost allocations are completed before
month end or accrued into same period
Minimizing un-allocated payments (waste – demurrage, file level errors)
Assist with A/R functions in resolving disputes for this department
Monitor Brokerage department Import product KPI’s with focus on continuous improvement
Support of External Customer sales and retention/service visits as required
Key Activities / Accountabilities – continued:
Lead Department staff, meeting company goals and expectations.
Complete annual and midyear reviews of Customs staff working with them for future goals.
Assist in creating meaningful goals and objectives for KPI’s for department to work towards.
Evaluate, communicate and act ion all exceptions and deviations conflicting with CA Import Product standards, procedures and goals.
Follow-up of corrective actions taken on exceptions and deviations to secure continuous development, quality improvement and profitability enhancement.
Secure proper and timely training and information in all areas that affect the CA Customs Import product performance
Regulatory compliance (CA Customs and other federal agencies)
Corporate compliance to company directives (AMPS, CTPAT – PIP)
Import product training (import products, operations and compliance)
Sales guidance in product specific matters
Settle disputes on operational and financial matters between offices and agents
Other duties as assigned by CA Customs Director
Some after-hours involved for clearances/ callouts as required.
Essential Educational and / or Training Qualifications & Certificates
Minimum Bachelors degree in Business/Economics or equivalent work related experience.
Hold and maintain a valid CA Customs Brokerage License
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
Minimum 7 years business related experience of which minimum 5 years in management or leadership role.
Profound knowledge of Import Customs Brokerage and transportation processes and procedures
Necessary Technical / Functional Skills
Excellent people management and communication skills

Ability to work close together with other functional disciplines
Fluent in English language with comprehensive writing skills
