Customs Manager, Mississauga, ON – Hybrid

Our client is a leader in Canadian & U.S. Customs Brokerage, International Freight Forwarding, and Global Logistics Services. This position is hybrid, 2 days in-office, after in-office training.

Role: 

Reporting to the Director of Customs, the Customs Manager is responsible for managing the brokerage team, ensuring the appropriate and efficient delivery of customs services to clients, as well as, ensuring company goals and targets are met.

The Customs Manager manages and participates in the development of customs processes, service platforms and productivity output. He/she will also be responsible for addressing client issues, maintaining positive relationships with them as well as with relevant government authorities. 


• Regulatory compliance, providing operational customs brokerage guidance to staff, ensuring customer service retention and department financial compliance is being met  • Review, evaluation and implementation of procedures and processes (best practices), incl. training and mentoring of staff  • Corporate compliance to company directives (AMPS, CTPAT – PIP)  • Maintain and enforce Canadian Customs Brokerage standard operating procedures  • Drive timely and accurate invoicing  • Ensure CARM month-end payments are billed out within the same month for reconciliation  • Enforce all shipments received are recorded with file level revenues and costs are booked within the same financial period, ensuring all file cost allocations are completed before the month end or accrued into the same period  • Minimize un-allocated payments (waste – demurrage, file level errors) and assist with A/R functions resolving disputes for non-payment  • Key contact with governmental agencies aligned to CBSA and lead customer compliance with these governmental agencies  • Regulatory compliance (CA Customs and other federal agencies)  • Evaluate, communicate, and act on all exceptions and deviations conflicting with Customs Product standards, procedures, and goals  • Follow-up of corrective actions taken on exceptions and deviations to secure continuous development, quality improvement and profitability enhancement  • Focus on department KPI’s to ensure 

Requirements: 

Minimum 7-10 years of experience in Customs Brokerage operations 

Minimum 5-7 years of staff management or leadership experience 

Strong knowledge of Canadian customs regulations & trade processes and programs 

CCS designation or CBSA professional qualification

Excellent interpersonal skills and capability of motivating your team to ensure successful mandate completion 

Exceptional customer service skills, overseeing customers’ orders from end to end 

Eagerness to learn and accept new challenges, highly self-motivated 

Extremely detail oriented and highly organized
